Welcome to Environmental Studies

Here is your opportunity to comment of current events that affect our world. We will be visiting this site throughout the term as a source of discussion outside of class time. You are expected to be professional and factual in your discussions. Please add your Ecological Footprint data/assignment below. Thank you in advance for your attention to DETAIL. Enjoy.

Here's my data in graph form. It really needs to be lower!

Try a Footprint quiz for yourself http://www.myfootprint.org/

  1. a)An ecological footprint is how much we use or don't use on this earth. It shows us how we affect this world we live on.

b)I am the furthest away from being eco-friendly. I use a lot of power and don't recycle resulting in damage throughout the earth.

c)If I decide to not travel as much or to not take as long of showers I am able to lower my footprint. Although this would be a struggle to do so it would help out greatly resulting in a 2.5 earth difference.

  2. A.) Ecological footprints show how many things we use from our planet and environment. This includes how much we use and how much waste humans produce. Ecological footprints not only tell us how much we affect our planet but also help drive home the fact that we as human beings need to change our ways.

B.) I'm kinda Earth-friendly. I recycle like crazy, use energy efficient appliances and I do my best not to waste water but I could do much better.

C.) The main part of my ecological footprint is my carbon emissions from energy and gas. I can bike to school (yay google maps!), buy more local food than I already do (less processed for sure) and install a rain barrel or gray water recycling system.

  3. A. An ecological footprint consists of the amount of land and water it takes to produce the resources that we use.

    B. I could be much more eco-friendly. I recycle occasionally and try not to waste water or electricity, but I could do more.

    C. I could drive less and cut down on shower time and how long I run the water faucet. I could also cut down on the amount of processed foods I eat and start looking for healthier/organic options.

  4. 1) Ecological footprint, is what humans use out of all the resources the earth provides. It also composes of how much waste a human produces. This truly determines how much we use and how much we waste.

    2) I do not recycle, I like to travel, and I am not very eco friendly. And I would like to change what I use and what I waste.

3)I could recycle more, I could also eat more fresh foods, I eat mainly fast foods and non organic foods. I could also use less water on a daily basis, and not use as much gas by traveling with friends, instead of separate.

  5. A~ An ecological footprint is how much of the earth resources you need to live your lifestyle. It takes in to account your food, travel, energy, and waste. It shows how valuable our earth is.

B~ I would use about 5.6 worlds if everyone was to live like me. This is because we recycle and travel together and car pool every now and then. I would say my results were fairly decent.

C~ I can lower my ecological footprint by driving less, eat healthier and not go out to eat so often. I could also buy green products for my house.

  6. 1)An ecological footprint is the amount land and water ecosystems necessary to support your consumption of resources and the waste you produce.

2)From my Footprint result quiz, I found that by recycling all possible materials, and a low consumption, my eco-footprint is significantly reduced.

3)To become more "eco-friendly", I will plan more efficient trips while driving and use my bike for short distance trips. It would also help to use less energy for home heating by wearing more clothes instead of turning on the thermostat.

  7. A) An ecological footprint is the amount of resources we use in daily life

    B) I'm kinda eco-friendly i always recycle at home and save water. I don't eat meat and i try to eat everything organic.

    C) I need to stop traveling and driving around less i live out of city limit so it makes things more difficult. i use way to much electricity, I always forget to turn stuff off when finished.

  8. A) An ecological footprint measures how much demand we have from earth and compares the demand to the ecological capacity. It measures your water and energy use and other aspects of day to day life.

    B) I really am not ecofriendly in the least. I don't recycle and waste a lot of things that could be reused. I drive way too much and much too big of a car.

    C) I think the biggest thing I need to do is recycle. Driving less often and carpooling more would also be good.

  9. 1)an ecological footprint is the amount land and water ecosystems necessary to support our habits

2)i would use 4.27 earths but i guess it should be lower

3)i can lower my ecological footprint by driving less, eating less meat and keeping my thermostat in a more frugal way

  10. A) An ecological footprint show how much resources we consume. The higher the number the more it impacts the earth

    B) I am sort of earth friendly. I do waste some stuff. I should recycle more to help out.

    C) My Carbon Footprint is really high compared to the country average. I can drive less and walk to places or bike.

  11. A)An ecological footprint shows how we use and treat our needs on our Earth. It helps us to know that we need to change the way to live.

B)I am not very Earth-friendly. We would need 6.99 Earths if everyone lived like me. I like to take long showers and I have problem turning lights off.

C)One of the main things that I can do to lower my footprint is to have appliances in my home that save energy. Also I could not drive around as much as I do.

  12. a) An ecological footprint is how many of earths resources it takes to keep a population going. It shows our demand on the earth and how many resources we use doing certain things.

    b) I use about 5 or 6 earths and that shows that I waste to many resources like water and gas.

    c) I think I can recycle a lot more and shorten my showers and carpool to save the environment.

  13. A)an ecological footprint shows us the demand of things we need for our planet. It also shows us how many earths it would take to support humanity if everyone lived the way we did.

B)I am not very earth friendly, if everyone on the planet lived my lifestyle we would need 5.46 earths. I don't always unplug appliances and sometimes leave the lights on when i leave.

    C) To lower my ecological footprint i could use not drive so much. I could also use more eco friendly products.

  14. A.) An ecological footprint is the impact that we as humans leave on the earth by the way we live and the amount of earths resources we use.

B.) I'm definitely not eco friendly, both the quizzes told me that we would need 8 earths for everyone to live the way that i live. The quizzes also showed that it takes 35.4 global acres of the earth to support my lifestyle.

C.) To lower my ecological footprint is...
    >recycle, instead of throwing everything
    away.
    >use things other then a car to get
    around.
    >turn off the lights in every room when
    i leave it.

  15. a) An ecological footprint shows how much of the earths resources are required to sustain life.

    b) My footprint shows that I am pretty eco-friendly. From all the recycling and energy efficient appliances.

    c) To be more eco-friendly i could car pool more and my family could keep our house cooler in the winter.

  16. a) An ecological footprint is a statistic showing how much of the earth resources you use in your life. This includes water, trees, oil, etc.

    b) It would take 8.39 Earths to support the lifestyle I live. I don't recycle or use any renewable resources.

    c) Start driving with other people in order to start saving gas. I could start recycling plastic, paper, batteries, etc. I could buy renewable resources.

  17. A) An ecological fooprint is the amount of productive land appropriated on average by each person for food, water, transport, housing, waste management, and other purposes.

    B) If everyone were to live my current lifestyle we would need 6.58 Earths. I could definitely be more eco friendly and practice more conservative habits.

    C) To help lower my ecological footprint I could strongly cut down on the number of unnecessary driving trips I make. Also if my family were to recycle I feel like that would help immensely.

  19. A) An Ecological footprint are the resources that we humans use on earth. these resources include water, transportation, waste, etc. These resources are what help us live on earth to sustain life. but there are some ways that our own ecological footprint is harming the earth.

    B) My Ecological Footprint would need 6.63 earths for anyone to live my life. I don't recycle alot and i should cut down on appliances i do not use

C)My Ecological Footprint would need 6.63 earths for anyone to live my life. That in my opionion is very harmful and harms the earth. A way for me to lower my ecological footprint would be to recycle, cut down on transportation, cut down on any electrical appliances that are not being used around my home.

  20. A. An ecological fooprint is the amount of productive land average by each person for food, water, transport, and other re sources. also things we do cn harm the earth. things we make our ecological footprint harms it.

B.If every1 could life like me it would be 6.74 earths i would clean up the trash pick up the4 trash, recycle and try no not waist all out natural resources.

    C. I would try not to drive a lot so we wouldnt pollute our air. try to save electricity, food and try to not harm other animals environment like we have.

  21. A. Ecological Footprints convert used products and actions into global hectares. It calculates how many earths we would need if the entire human population were to be living by a particular lifestyle, often with scary results.

    B. From my several quiz results, we would need anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 earths if everyone lived my lifestyle. I found I was WAY below the country average but not quite to the world target, which should be everyone's goal.

    C. I generally do not travel, and especially by air, so that should impact the score by a considerable amount. I do not drive very often, as my commute isn't very far at all, however I have found my house to have inadequate water recycling systems, structure, etc. But there is little I can do about the house since I live with my parents.
