  1. It was pretty exciting preparing for Nature Night. Putting all the materials together, I could tell that the kids at Clinton would have a good time making and learning about kites. Even though I couldn't make it to Nature Night, I know what it's like to present to little kids because I did it earlier this year at Human Elementary. Presenting to them was fun because they all had lots of interesting questions and comments. I'm disappointed that I missed Nature Night but I'm sure all the kids there had a good time learning about the environment and the things in it.

  2. I enjoyed nature night at Clinton Elementary. The kids were very well behaved and willing to learn about snakes. While our poster was an afterthought for most of the kids, the snakes claimed the kids attention and provided an opportunity they couldn't find every day. Even the fact that there were two other booths with larger/albino snakes, the kids remained interested and willing to hear us out.

  3. Nature Night was lovely except there was not many kids there which was kind of a bummer. None the less it was a good experience. Most of the kids were very eager to fly their kites. I think it would have gone a bit more smoothly if we had the kites completely made before or if we could put them together faster since most kids just want to go go go. Anyways, it was fun and I enjoyed it.

  4. Nature night was a fun experience, and I could tell that the children enjoyed making sidewalk chalk. It was a little bit messy with all the paint and plaster, but both children and parents seemed to have a fun time with it. Many parents took home instructions as to how to make chalk themselves, and will hopefully engage their children in more outside activities. Working with the kids was a little chaotic, especially when there were numerous kids at the booth all at once, but overall it was an enjoyable experience for the children as well as me.

  5. Nature Night was a colorful vibrant, and delicious experience. Almost as delicious as peanut butter brownies! There was not a high number of children there, but quality seemed to override quantity. All the kids (and parents) were well-behaved, with one exception. We had a psychotic snake-hating mother approach us. I do not wish to elaborate further because she was evil and I want this to be a positive entry.
Benny was well-behaved and so was Other Kid's snake, Slinky. Slinky was a female and this seemed to get Benny excited. They twisted together for a brief period until we pulled them apart because children wanted to pet them.
I learned that about half the people you encounter are afraid of snakes. I also learned that even a domesticated snake like Benny still has a desire for women. I also learned about the importance of teamwork. All in all, it was a magical night and I wish that every night could be Nature Night, just so I could see Benny.

  6. Nature night was a fun, even though there wern't that many kids it was still fun to teach them how to make hacky sacks. Our stand was set up inside and everything worked out smoothly. At one point our entire table was packed with kids and I had to help four different kids at once the best I could, it was a little crazy but then it died down and before I knew it, the night was over. There were only about 40 kids and parents that showed up, but it was still a blast and I would do it again. I also liked watching the kids try out there hacky sacks because some threw them and some were actually better than me. All in all it was a fun night and I enjoyed helping the kids.
In our microbe experiment with oil,the oil is breaking down in our shoreline with fertilizer seems to be breaking down the oil into little clumps and from the looks of it, it doesn't look to bad. It will just take time in order for it to break down all the way.

  7. Nature Night was fun, it wasnt like what Mr.Bittle said i9t would be like. He made it seem like there were going to be at least more than 100 kids, and they wouldnt listen. In my opinion the kids there were alright and there were only maybe 30-45 kids there. All the kids seemed to like making a hacky sack except this one girl who was a little older than the others, she had this " this is it" kind of attitude. We had some of the parents making hacky sacks, although most were making them for their kids who needed help but others actually made one for themselves. This one dad was really good at kicking the sack he got maybe 15 kicks. About 20 minutes into the event, about 10 kids gathered around the table which was difficult because me and Anthony were basically focused on one kid at a time. Other than that, I had a good time at nature night.
The microbe oil experiment was interesting because I was impressed by how fast the oil got broken down in all the different "environments" such as: open water control, shore line, open water with fertilizer, and shore line with fertilizer. in the open water control there was this white weird substance on the lid of the petri dish. And in shore line all the sand looked very dried out.

  8. Nature Night was exciting. I must say, the days leading up to nature night was a blast. Getting prepared for Nature Night was fun as well. Working with the children to make chalk was exciting. parents, as well as their children, were shocked that you could actually MAKE chalk. Most of children seemed to be well-behaved and grateful that we were there. The older children didn't seem as excited to be there as the younger ones, but that's to be expected, I suppose.

Quite a few children were excited to make the colors they wanted -- often times they wanted to either mix them or make more than one color of chalk. Some of the parents weren't too excited about their children playing with such a messy mixture; but we helped settle their nerves when we told them how fast the mixture set up.

I was glad to see how many parents took the instructions to make the chalk at home themselves. I hope they encourage their children to go outside and play with the chalk -- even the parent that told us she throws away all of her chalk. Most children seemed to like the colorful mixture splatter and stirred it and asked for more water. Eventually we pretended to add more and encouraged them that it looked perfect. Overall Nature Night seemed to be a success.
